WEEK 8

Project 2 (Part B)

Photo Manipulation: Cyborg Edit

 Sketches and Photographs

Due to the fact that we're required to take landscape full body pictures, I cant really take portrait photos to feature a close-up on the face with my robotic. So, I've decided to adapt by adding a robotic hand to the project to emphasize that I'm a cyborg. Shown below is the sketch.

The process of taking photos is quite a challenge for me because I left my camera and tripod in my hostel. Nonetheless, I've managed to prop up my phone using a homemade lego stand. I've taken quite a lot of photos but the one below is the chosen photo to be edited after consulting Mr. Martin.

The body parts that I want to change is my arm and one of my eyes. The reason of changing my arm is because my wrists and eyes get tired easily from working in front of the computer screen all day, due to endless assignments. In the picture, the story I’m trying to tell is that I am tired and I need a break, which includes having a smoke and indulging wine (second picture). Apart from that, I tried to put on a tired face to further illustrate the story.

Project 2 (Part A)

Digital Collage: Self-Titled

 Progress

First Draft
For my first draft I was inspired by the concept of split faces with the deeper of everyone's inner and outer version of themselves. As a personal preferences, I like clean cut designs, which is why I opted the split face with a cross section. Unfortunately, I was advised by Mr. Fauzi to incorporate more flat elements to play around with blending modes. Apart from that, he said my first draft's technique is more to photo manipulation which isn't relevant to this part of the project, it applies to the second part of the project instead. However, I have decided to re-purpose this design in another module, so my effort wouldn't go to waste. First draft is shown below.

Second Draft
For my second draft, I kind of went with my gut without inspiration. When I was taking pictures for the second part of the project, the idea of picture perfect came to mind. Taking a perfect picture is really hard so I thought, 'you know what, I'm just going to embrace the imperfections". Moving on, I featured "candid" photos of me not being ready to take a photo. I chose to feature these photos in a frame where I protrude beyond the frame. I added a caption Picture "Perfect", to further illustrate the message of the project.

As for the technical aspects of this draft, I took Mr. Fauzi's advice in using more blending modes and layers. The blending modes that I have used most for this design are overlay, multiply and screen. Apart from that, I used the pen tool and masks too. However, upon finishing the design, I don't really like how it looks, so I'm not going to go into detail about the process. Nonetheless, you can still see the second draft below.
